As the unemployment figures creep higher Kevin Rudd has thrown another bundle of money at the problem. Yesterday he announced 300 million dollars towards training and career advice to help people on their way to a new job. Bill Mitchell is Professor of Economics at the Centre for Full Employment and Equity at the University of Newcastle, a place which has already tasted this scenario when BHP and other industry pulled out of the area years ago.
