Kiran Bedi has been an inspiration to Indian women since becoming the first woman police officer back in 1972. During her stellar career she has introduced major reforms to policing and prisons … one of her innovations was getting criminals to meditate..and now in retirement she continues to be a social activist and also plays a Judge Judy type role on a popular Indian television program. She is also the subject of an award winning documentary Yes Madam Sir which had its Australian premiere this week at the Adelaide Film Festival. Filmmaker Megan Doneman says she has wanted to tell Kiran’s story ever since hearing about her from her mother when she was a child.
