It’s not often you hear a coalition between the Liberals, the Greens and an independent. But that’s exactly what has happened in response to the “Safe Work Australia” Bill currently tabled in parliament. It aims to establish a national regulatory body for occupational health and safety. Senators insist the Bill isn’t truly independent and doesn’t represent employers and employees. But Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard maintains their Bill is based on the findings of an independent review – and is not privy to the senators.
