Many of the ministers in Afghanistan’s so-called democratic government are actually former warlords and they’re finding that the front of democracy is giving them even greater power than they had before. Many are proven war criminals but this week they voted on a bill which would give them amnesty from their crimes. A lone brave voice in the Afghan Parliament is that of Malalai Joya – an independent and the only woman member of government. She’s survived four assassination attempts and probably wisely spends much of her time outside her country on lecture tours to raise support for what she calls her forgotten people
