The Honorable Fred Chaney has been director of the National Native Title Tribunal for 12 years now…but today at a reconciliation forum in Kalgoorlie western Australia, he made the shock announcement that he would be leaving the post. Mr Chaney cites unfair legal processes in title claims as the reason he’s leaving, and says he will be able to do more for indigenous people when he’s not working for the government. The Wire reached him via mobile at the Kalgoorlie conference today to ask him how the announcement was received.
