All through the election campaign Labor ran a strong line that it would abolish WorkChoices should it win the peoples’ vote. Indeed the nation’s vote indicates that WorkChoices is definitely on the nose with the majority of Australians. But now the Labor government faces the challenge of turning their IR bill into law and to do that they need the help of a handful of Green, independent and possibly coalition senators. With the senate not changing until mid next year, Democrats Senator Andrew Murray has warned labour it must tread carefully if it is to succeed in abolishing WorkChoices.
