Ocean environmental protection group Sea Shepherd has welcomed the creation of a series of marine parks around Australia, but says it will be watching to make sure the boundaries protect whale migration routes. It says in spite of some negative publicity in the past no member of the Shepherds has ever been prosecuted for a crime. It says its pirate-like methods are necessary to preserve the oceans for future generations.
