The call for greater protection of Australian shores has finally been answered as a national marine park plan was announced this morning at the Sydney Aquarium by the Environment Minister, Tony Burke. The plan introduced forty-four marine parks which would protect a third of the Australian ocean. Minister Burke said “this is the biggest step forward the globe has ever seen… We have decided to become the world leader in ocean protection”. The announcement of the marine parks has however recieved mixed opinions from Government opposition, conservation societies and fishery groups.
