86 children, of whom 59 are unaccompanied minors, are still being held in detention on Christmas Island, according to Amnesty International, who say this is a betrayal of the Rudd government’s professed humane approach to immigration. Not the case, says Minister for Immigration, Chris Evans …who told The Wire the children are in a separate, appropriate facility. Amnesty’s Refugee Co-ordinator, Dr Graham Thom, went to Christmas Island to see for himself.
