There are significant challenges for many countries in the Asia Pacific region in food sustainability.

The diet of many people has been changing and so this means changes in the demand for different types of foods, which has a knock-on effect with the demands on agriculture.  Traditional staple foods are in less demand, and new diversified foods are increasing in popularity.

Modern supply chain logistics favours foods that are easy to store and transport, and often that means more processed foods.

Australia has a track record in increasing productivity in agriculture, so we are uniquely placed to make a contribution to food sustainability and affordability as different foods replace the traditional staples around the region.
