Federal government ends support for sufferers of rare disorder

It appears the rhetoric around the fairness of the recent federal budget continues to unravel. Earlier this week it was revealed that sufferers of rare genetic disorders called inborn errors of metabolism will be stripped of support. Those who have it lack the ability to properly digest protein – and an oversupply can lead to serious effects including brain damage. All have to eat a highly specialised and expensive low-protein diet which up till now had been partially subsidised.
