Advocates are urging the NSW government to improve services for the 420 young people held in Juvenile Justice systems, at a forum held at Parliament House today. The recent Noetic Report stresses the need to tackle the causes of crime, highlighting vulnerable children with mental health issues are being locked up. There’s also the issue that almost half of those held in custody are Indigenous, even though they make up only four percent of the state’s child and youth population. A number of recommendations will be made at the forum.
