Last night, the parliament passed legislation reducing the rate of the COVID-19 supplement for job seekers from $250 to $150 a fortnight.

The new rate will start on January the first. The Supplement was previously lowered in September from $550 a fortnight.

Welfare advocates including Australian Council of Social Service and Anglicare have condemned the cut, stating it would make many Australians suffer from poverty during Christmas and in 2021.
