When high school student Nikki Lovell finished year 12 in Adelaide, she planned, like many other young Australians, to have a gap year. But Nikki’s idea of a gap year wasn’t backpacking and partying across Europe or Asia – she wanted to do something different.

Nikki ended up in a remote village in Eastern Uganda – where she would spend the next eight months of her life working with Student Partnerships World Wide as a health educator. The experience led Nikki to set up a charity called One Village and write a book about how her time in Uganda changed her life.
