Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce is one of five dual nationals the High Court has ruled ineligible to sit in parliament.

Mr Joyce will now face a December by-election in his seat of New England in rural New South Wales.

This brings the Coalition down to 75 seats in the House of Representatives, eliminating their narrow majority.

Senators Nick Xenophon and Matt Canavan have been spared, while the others, including Deputy Leader of the Nationals Senator Fiona Nash, will be shuffled out for candidates who ran lower down the list at the last election.
