Chris Eccles, the secretary of Victoria’s Department of Premier and Cabinet has stood down after records show he exchanged a phone call with then-Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton on March 27.
The resignation has triggered a no confidence motion against Daniel Andrews, while the question still remains of who in the government was responsible for contracting the private hotel security. Eccles’ resignation comes after Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos stood down last month when Premier Andrews told the inquiry she thought she held responsibilty for the hotel quarantine program.
