The anti-social behaviour associated with the Alice Springs town camps has been a big talking point recently. Indigenous Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda today floated a suggestion that the camps be closed down and residents moved into Alice suburbs. Long time town camp resident and Mt Nancy Town Camp committee member Barbara Shaw says the problem is the huge influx of visitors from communities since the Intervention and she has rung Mick Gooda and invited him to visit and discuss the situation. Mick has agreed and says it will be a good chance to start a conversation about how not just Alice but towns all over Australia deal with how to accommodate visitors from remote communities.
