You might not have heard much about New Zealand’s federal election over the weekend, but some political analysts are calling it one of the most dramatic ever. Ending in a landslide victory for incumbent Prime Minister John Key and his centre right National Party, the election leadup was marked by smear campaigns, resignations and allegations of mass surveillance. Later on, the appearance of an array of colourful figures, from eccentric billionaire Kim Dotcom to Edward Snowden and Julian Assange added further drama to the political spectacle.
