The tobacco industry is not backing down in its fight against the government’s plain packaging plans. Don’t let the tax payer foot the bill! That’s the catch cry of the tobacco industry’s latest campaign against plain packaging. But Stafford Sanders, co-ordinator of Protecting Children from Tobacco, believes that the government is making the right choice and that the packaging of cigarettes plays a significant role in the amount of young Australians taking up smoking. However Scott McIntyre, spokesman from British American Tobacco Australia, insists that this move by the government will cost tax payers more in the long run.
