14 months to go to the Beijing Olympics and the mutterings about China’s human rights reputation are getting louder. Last year a coalition of high profile Australians, including politicians and the former human rights commissioner Sev Ozdowski, formed to investigate claims that organs were being illegally harvested from imprisoned Falun Gong followers. The Chinese government hasn’t yet allowed the investigating team into the country so now the CIPFG is putting the pressure on – in the lead up to the Olympics they’re planning to run a global torch run for human rights. Jane Sun from the CIPFG says it will start in Greece just like the usual Olympics rally, but will be calling on people to boycott the Beijing games.
