Tassie devils could face threat on second front with mining traffic

The Tasmanian devil population has been decimated by a facial tumor disease creeping across Tasmania since the 1990s… but one place it hasn’t reached yet is the Tarkine region in the state’s north west. This rainforest-rich area is also the site of three mines being proposed by WA company Venture Minerals. Conservationists are calling for the region to be given an emergency heritage listing, amid fears the development could push the endangered devil down the same path as the now extinct Tasmanian Tiger.
