Sri Lankan asylum seekers who’ve had their claims rejected by Australia say they’ve been tortured since they were forced to return to the country. The allegations add to a growing body of evidence that points to systemic state-sanctioned violence in the Sri Lanka. Back in march, the Sri Lankan public relations minister Mervyn Silva publicly threatened to ‘break the limbs’ of rights activists and journalists that he called ‘traitors’.
