Indigenous Australians were under-represented in the 2007 Federal Election in terms of participation. Despite the compulsory voting system. For this year’s election the Australian Electoral Commission has established a program to encourage Indigenous Australians to participate in the electoral process. What do Indigenous people think about participating in this election? Eileen Sun spoke to Professor Lyndon Murphy a Jinibira man who specialises in Indigenous politics research at the Griffith University in Brisbane and Slo Watson from the Australian Electoral Commission.
