Rocky Hill mine rejection sets legal precedent

The judgment of Chief Judge Brian Preston in the Land and Environment Court of NSW has set a new legal precedent after he rejected an application for an open cut mine to be built on Rocky Hill near Gloucester NSW.

Legal commentators say the case is essentially an international precedent. Here in Australia, the community group Gloucester Groundswell, and the NSW Environmental Defenders Office, who assisted in defending the case, are celebrating a landmark victory.
