A new study into heatwaves has launched and will be the world’s first study to provide evidence based guidance in developing effective cooling strategies to help people cope during heatwaves.

The elderly are the most vulnerable during periods of extreme heat after the Bureau of Meteorology declared that January was the hottest month on record in Australia that saw heatwaves “unprecedented in their scale and duration”, with temperatures well above average. The new study will simulate various heatwave conditions to participants of the study by replicating historical heatwave events to assess and determine the most appropriate cooling strategies.

If you are above the age of 60 and would like get involved with the study led by the University of Sydney, click here for more information.
