One week after the Redfern riot, political fires continue to burn over the issue of indigenous rights. The funeral of Thomas Hickey, whose death sparked a riot last Sunday night, took place today in his hometown of Walgett in northern NSW, attended by friends, family and the small town’s community. Meanwhile, those members of the Aboriginal community who couldn’t attend the funeral gathered in Sydney, alongside supporters, to remember TJ’s life. They also presented a list of demands to Redfern police and the NSW State government. Jeanti St Clair was in Redfern to witness a community in mourning. She spoke to ATSIC Sydney Regional Council Chairperson, Marcia Ella-Duncan, Redfern community leader Lyall Munro, and NSW Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon.
