Throughout the debate over the abortion pill RU486 this week we’ve witnessed even the most pokerfaced of politicians wearing their hearts on their sleeves – a sight to behold in the relatively restrained environment of Federal Parliament. The Senators and MP’s voting on the issue have been free to vote according to their conscience, and the result has been a frank and raw display of emotions – a stark contrast to the usual conformity we are all accustomed to through party discipline. Professor of Politics at the Australian National Univeristy John Uhr and Brett Solomon, Executive Director of lobby group GetUp spoke to The Wire.
