Its Valentine’s Day today and cupid is aiming his arrows at India. But not everyone is happy about it. India may have the Karma Sutra, the wold’s most famous sex book, but many want nothing to do with St Valentine’s love. The celebration is viewed as yet another invasion of Westernism into a culture that does not share the historic roots of the tradition and has an altogether diffferent outlook on love. Dr Kama Mclean, lecturer in South Asia and World History at the University of New South Wales discusses how Valentine’s Day celebrations first made their way to India.
