A New South Wales Supreme Court jury has found that Mamdouh Habib was defamed by a series of articles published in the Daily Telegraph and the Weekend decision. Mr Habib welcomed the decision today, saying he was happy that the court had “proven he was not a terrorist”. The legal team behind Mr Habib had claimed that the articles had defamed Mr Habib by suggesting he was a terrorist, a liar, a supporter of Osama bin Ladin and fundraiser of terrorist causes. While the jury ruled that one out of four suggestions made in the articles did defame Mr Habib, the newspapers will now be able to put their version of events to the court. Mr Habib’s solicitor, Peter Erman, who outlined his clients concerns about the articles in question.
