What images do the words ‘fly’, ‘nightly’ and ‘skidaddle’ conjure up in your mind? For illustrators around Australia over the last month, these are the mystery words being used to inspire original artworks.

Those artworks will be auctioned in July as fundraisers for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The illustrators meet on a designated day and are told the word and from there, the magic unfolds.’One Word, One Day’ is an initiative of the Australian Society of Authors and Michele Harris spoke to the event’s coordinator, Laurine Croasdale as the event unrolled in Brisbane.
