This Friday, Australia will celebrate the ANZAC spirit. But while many remember our fallen soldiers, one of our closest neighbours, and friends during World War II is suffering from the ravaging affects of malaria. Papua New Guinea- whose indigenous people, were nicknamed the “Fuzzy Wuzzys” by soldiers in World War II- is fighting a Malaria epidemic. The Fuzzy Wuzzys are fondly remembered by Australian diggers for carrying their wounded to saftey and delivering food and ammuntion to them in the heat of battle. This ANZAC day also marks World Malaria day.
