Prison officers at NSW’s Parklea Prison began a strike today set to last 48 hours regarding safety concerns caused by understaffing.

The privately run prison has the worst record for serious assault in the state.

The Community and Public Sector Union NSW Branch (CPSU) says the staff are often asked to work overtime and understaffed.

The CPSU is calling for a 3.5% increase in pay, a figure Assistant General Secretary Troy Wright says is more than fair.
