The NSW Iemma Government has received praise from all sides for its new funding package for disability services. The State has pledged $1 billion over the next five-years in order to foster, according to the Premier, “a fairer and more caring society” that will ensure people with disabilities are treated as “equal fellow citizens”. The injection of resources places special emphasis on the needs of young people with disabilities, including an extra $235 million for 2000 young adults, and up to $80 million in partnership with the Federal Government to prevent young people entering and languishing in nursing homes intended for aged care.
