This week Alassane Ouattara finally took power in the Ivory Coast following the capture of political rival Laurent Gbagbo. This follows a four month struggle after national elections declared Ouattara the victor, and Gbagbo refused to step down. In a televised address, Oauttara told his people and the world, “Finally we have reached the dawn of a new era of hope”. But his message is marred by the recent allegations of violence committed by his supporters. So is Gbagbo the only one to blame for the last four months of turmoil?
