The Coalition of Law Abiding Sporting Shooters will tomorrow encourage Australians to buy more guns as part of their National Buy A Gun Day. Coalition President Peter Wheelan says more young people should take up shooting as a sport to learn self-confidence, firearm discipline and personal responsibility. Guns Control Australia President John Crook says he has never heard of a more nonsensical argument. Jeanine Baker has completed research into the relationship between gun lincensees and gun deaths in Australia, published last month in the British Journal of Criminology. She’s also president of the Australian Shooters Association and believes while shooting is a beneficial sport, Buy A Gun Day is a dangerous idea.
