The Federal Government has released details of the mental health services that will be provided for Asylum Seekers on Offshore Processing centers. Two medical professionals and two counselors will be stationed at Nauru full time, however, there will be no full-time psychiatrist. The Greens and some Asylum Seeker advocates have criticized the plan. They say the limited number of mental health professionals will not be able to keep up with the services required by the Asylum Seekers set to be stationed at the center. The government claims the policy is “broadly consistent” with services available on the mainland, and that the Greens don’t understand the counseling services that are available.
