New research from Deakin University shows minorities are way underrepresented in the Australian news coverage, and in newsrooms. The multicultural community feels the gap done by mainstream media, and instead, consumers prefer social media to obtain news.

Mainstream media needs to step up on the matter, and also not only reporting on multicultural affairs, but to showcase journalists from those minorities, and start reporting adequately on their issues.

Specifically talking about Islam, the media has a responsibility to adequately reporting issues and clearing the difference between Islam and Islamic terrorism.
