Today marked the 155th Melbourne Cup – a day where thousands around the country gather to bet on their lucky horse, kick back and have one too many drinks. But behind the excitement is a dark world of animal exploitation. Thousands of horses bred for the racing industry are euthanized each year and for those who make it too retirement, adequate protection services are few. The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorse held a ‘Nup to the Cup’ event this year to highlight the cruel practices of the industry.
