Labor MP, Michael Danby has criticised the Sydney Peace Prize, calling it a “bodgy prize from a bodgy institute.” Controversial American linguist Professor Noam Chomsky was announced as this year’s winner by the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir, last week. Professor Chomsky is an activist and fierce critic of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. The Sydney Peace Foundation is standing by its decision to give the award to Professor Chomsky, saying that he is an ambassador for free speech and human rights.
