A court ruling in the ACT has granted damages to a couple who got one more child that they asked for during IVF treatment. Debate over the case has been raging across the country, since the Victorian couple won a case of wrongful birth action against their obstetrician. The mother says she only wanted one embryo inserted, but the doctor inserted two. In legal terms it’s medical negligence, but some commentators say it’s child commodification.
