Over the past year, the Victorian government has been working on reforms to regulations for the pet industry. In April of this year, the breeders code was overhauled. Key features of the new code included higher penalties of up to eighty-eight thousand dollars and a ten year ban on puppy farmers with an animal cruelty conviction. But the Victorian Labor party wants to go even furhter with the laws, as part of a pre-election promise.
