Researchers at the University of Western Australia are finalising a system which promises to be a huge step forward in Indigenous health screening. The project team have developed the “Here and Now Aboriginal Assessment”: a culturally-sensitive, interview-based health assessment tool.

The system is suitable for the general adult population, and will allow healthcare workers to break down cultural barriers to accurately gauge the psychological and physical health of Indigenous people. Ten years of consultation and development are expected to end in a few months’ time when the final product is rolled out nationally.
