Governments, business argue for minimum wage ‘restraint’

The Fair Work Commission is currently reviewing the minimum wage and businesses and conservative governments are calling on the Commission to exercise restraint in its decision. Restraint in this instance means a lower than inflation increase or no increase at all. The federal government even goes so far as to argue increasing wages is not the best way to help the umemployed – that benefits delivered through the tax transfer system are a better way of boosting the living standards of the low paid.
