Gillard negotiations to set-up uranium deal with India

Prime Minister Julia Gillard will be in Delhi this evening and part of the nation-to-nation talks with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Sing will focus on the sale of Australian uranium to the country. This comes after internal reports of lax regulations for the expanding nuclear industry. India is also not party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. As India expands its nuclear power plants, there has been largescale community opposition and demonstrations have been met with violent crackdown by police.
