In 2000 World Bank President James Wolfensohn commissioned a report on Extractive Industries such as mining for oil and fossil fuels to evaluate how much, or whether, these industries contribute to poverty alleviation. Human Rights and Environmental groups believe this is a significant step in the right direction, but whether the World Bank now adopts it’s own recommendations is another matter. Cinnamon Nippard spoke to the Mining Ombudsman for Oxfam Community Aid Abroad, Ingrid McDonald.
