A local environmental issue may play a major role in the QLD election.

The Toondah Harbour development proposed by Walker Corporation would see 3600 apartments built in the midst of ramsar-protected wetlands, a prime habitat for migratory sea birds.

Surveys by local community group Redlands2030 have shown sentiment turning against the development, which seems to have boosted the profile of moderate Independent Claire Richardson against sitting LNP member Mark Robinson.

Both the LNP and Labor have supported the development since its inception and have used development laws to exempt it from environmental approvals at the state level.
