A key figure in the very first parade back in 1978 - 58 year-old Peter Murphy – was also there. In the lead up to Saturday’s parade, Calliste Weitenberg shared the experiences of both to find out exactly what the parade means today.

Sydney’s annual Mardi Gras parade came and went in spectacular fashion at the weekend, with a whole new generation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender participants marching down Oxford St before tens of thousands of spectators – some for the very first time. One of the first timers was 19 year-old Jordan Zacharowitz.
