Australia is experiencing a national shortage of both doctors and nurses. Despite this, Federal and State Governments are being urged to train nurses as junior doctors, who would prescribe drugs and perform minor day surgery. The move would alleviate shortages in the medical profession, however doctors have attacked the idea of having duties performed by a non trained medical professional.
