Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are on average twice as likely to commit suicide as non-Indigenous Australians.

In some remote areas of the country it’s up to six times as likely. There are a range of reasons contributing to the huge gap.

Today is the start of the inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Conference.

The two day event held in Alice Springs will discuss strategies to tackle this tragic issue.
