Coles says its workers will revert to the previous pay agreement.

Coles is  defying a Fair Work Commission ruling to boost penalty rates for its workers, calling it “impractical for our customer service model”.

An agreement between Coles and the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association negotiated higher base hourly pay rates, but cut penalty rates.

The decision means employees who work mostly nights and on weekends will continue to be paid less than under the award rate.
